Notices will be mailed by May 10 and should be delivered by mid-May. New values will be posted to the District website as soon as possible. Values continue to rise in Mills County but a a slower pace than in past years. The recent Property Value Study completed by the State Comptroller in January indicated that the value of single family residences were about 10% low and commercial property was quite a bit low. If not corrected, and the overall rates fall below 90%, school funding can be impacted. Taxpayeres who receive a notice of value will receive a notice of protest. If the taxpayer feels that the value is above what the sale price would be, they should file the notice of protest with the District and submit any evidence they feel is appropriate. Such things as fee appraisals, recent closing statement of purchase, pictures of the interior showing damage, or any other evidence impacting a potential sale price may be submitted. An appraiser will contact the taxpayer and through the exchance of information, a settlement may be reached. If the taxpayer is not satisfied, they will have the right to appear before the Appraisal Review Board in a formal hearing,. Taxpayers should wait to contact the appraisal district office until they receive their notice. The values will not be finalized until mid-May when the deadline for business personal property passes.
